Step
#1 One
of the most common tactics of the untrained attacker, when “mounted”
is to attempt to roll over onto his chest so that he can use his strength
to push you up and escape from under you. Expect it! This is usually a
result of frustration at being “pinned” on his back. If your opponent
tries to roll to his chest, LET HIM. Loosen your leg in the direction he
is trying to roll and allow him to roll onto his chest. Hook your feet
under his hip as soon as he gives you enough room to do so. This is of
utmost importance. You
must keep your legs wrapped around and “hooked” under your opponent in
order to maintain control of him.

Step #2 As your opponent rolls to his chest and uses his strength to “push up”, insert your legs under his thighs and hook your feet behind his legs. Reach inside of his wrists as demonstrated and use the leverage of your arms against his elbows and wrists to “flip” his hands back and to the outside. As you do this push forward strongly with your hips and pelvis which will force him back to the ground.

|
Step #3 Keep the pressure to his back by pushing your hips forward and lifting with your legs (see the arrows in this frame). This will drive his chest to the ground and prevent him from pushing up onto his hands and knees. If your opponent tries to roll in either direction, spread your arms to the sides and put your hands out, palms down, on the ground (use your outriggers) as demonstrated in Step #1. You may also reach under his arms and hold his shoulders like a “back pack.” If you reach around his head, be careful not to choke him by applying pressure into his throat since that could cause him serious injury. Wrap your arms around his head or shoulders but avoid the throat or area around his mouth, he may bite.
